5-Minute Primer

Scritchy Scratchy is a chaotic, highly addictive crafting and combat game where you play as a feral feline deity navigating a world made entirely of cardboard, yarn, and discarded human trinkets. The entire gameplay loop revolves around two actions: scratching (gathering resources and destroying obstacles) and scribbling (drawing magical runes to craft items, cast spells, and build structures). If you can master the rhythm of these two mechanics, you will dominate the leaderboards.

In this game, speed is everything. You are constantly racing against the "Roomba," a roaming mechanical enemy that sweeps up loose resources and debris. The world regenerates every fifteen minutes, meaning you cannot afford to idle. Your ultimate goal is to craft the Golden Yarn Ball, a late-game artifact that requires massive amounts of refined materials, a perfectly optimized base, and a deep understanding of the game's interconnected systems. Forget everything you know about traditional survival games; in Scritchy Scratchy, aggression and rapid traversal are your best tools for survival.

First Hour Checklist

Your first hour in Scritchy Scratchy sets the pace for your entire playthrough. Do not wander aimlessly. Follow this checklist strictly to ensure you have a stable foundation before the first world regeneration event hits.

  • Complete the Litterbox Tutorial: It takes three minutes. Do not skip it. It grants the "Basic Claw Sharpening" buff, which increases your base scratch speed by 15% for your first ten lives.
  • Punch-Scratch 50 Cardboard Boxes: Ignore the small debris initially. Focus purely on breaking down large cardboard boxes to get Bulk Cardboard, the essential building block for all early-game structures.
  • Craft the Cardboard Claw Caps: Open your scribble menu and draw a straight line. This crafts the Claw Caps, which prevent your scratches from damaging your own crafted items—a devastating newbie trap.
  • Find a High Perch: Before the ten-minute mark, you must find a spot at least three stories high. Roombas cannot climb, giving you a safe zone to sort your inventory.
  • Scribble a Basic Nest: Use 20 Bulk Cardboard to draw a circle in your scribble menu. This creates your spawn point. If you die without a nest, you lose 30% of your carried yarn.
  • Hunt the Red Laser Dot: The Red Laser Dot is a mini-boss that spawns randomly in the first five minutes. It drops the "Laser Focus" trait, permanently reducing your scribble cast time by 0.5 seconds.

Key Systems Explained

The Scratch Matrix

Scratching is not just a simple attack; it is governed by a directional matrix. You can scratch horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, and each direction interacts differently with the environment. Horizontal scratches are wide sweeps excellent for clearing low-lying debris like rubber bands and paperclips. Vertical scratches are precise and deal high impact damage, making them ideal for breaking down reinforced shipping crates. Diagonal scratches create a "ricochet" effect, bouncing off walls to hit hidden stashes of premium yarn behind obstacles. Mastering the diagonal scratch early will save you hours of tedious backtracking.

The Scribble Engine

The crafting system is entirely gesture-based. You hold the designated scribble button and draw a shape with your mouse or right analog stick. The game recognizes basic geometric shapes: circles, squares, triangles, straight lines, and zig-zags. However, the size and speed of your drawing dictate the tier of the item you create. Drawing a tiny, slow circle yields a basic Yarn Ball. Drawing a massive, fast circle yields a Mega Yarn Ball, which provides ten times the crafting utility but costs significantly more stamina. If your drawing is too sloppy, the game will produce a "Scribble Reject," a useless wad of paper that clogs your inventory until you manually drop it.

The Threat Matrix: Roombas and Water Spritzers

You share the world with two primary hazards. Roombas are slow but relentless. They follow predefined paths but will alter their routes if they detect high concentrations of dropped loot. If a Roomba runs over you, you are stunned for three seconds and drop a random piece of armor. Water Spritzers are stationary turrets hidden inside ordinary objects like plastic plants or cups. If you scratch an object harboring a Spritzer, it will blast you with a stream of water. In Scritchy Scratchy, water is lethal. Getting hit by a Spritzer applies the "Soaked" debuff, which drains your stamina to zero for five seconds and prevents you from using the Scribble Engine entirely.

Build / Character Choices

At the end of your first life, you are prompted to choose a Feline Archetype. This choice determines your base stats and your starting passive ability. While you can respec later, it costs a massive amount of Silver Yarn, so getting it right the first time is highly recommended.

The Tabby Tinkerer (Recommended for Beginners)

The Tabby Tinkerer is the quintessential starting class. It offers a 10% bonus to scribble precision, meaning the game is much more forgiving when you draw slightly messy shapes. Their starting passive, "Nine Lives Backup," allows you to retain your inventory upon death once every ten minutes. For players learning the ropes and inevitably dying to hidden Water Spritzers, this safety net is invaluable. The Tinkerer excels at base building and rapid crafting, allowing you to set up your cardboard fortress much faster than any other class.

The Siamese Shadow (Advanced / Speed Focused)

If you prioritize movement and combat, the Siamese Shadow is the way to go. This class receives a flat 20% increase to movement speed and scratch damage. However, their scribble precision is reduced by 10%, making early-game crafting frustrating. Their passive, "Night Vision," highlights hidden Water Spritzers and Roomba patrol paths in the dark, which is incredibly powerful but requires high mechanical skill to capitalize on. Choose this only if you are confident in your ability to draw perfect shapes under pressure.

The Maine Coon Bruiser (Tank / Combat)

The Maine Coon Bruiser has the highest base health and stagger resistance in the game. Scratching objects while playing as a Bruiser generates "Aggro," drawing Roombas directly to your position. While this sounds like a downside, it allows the Bruiser to farm Roomba Cores—a high-tier crafting material—by intentionally luring them into environmental hazards. The Bruiser's passive, "Thick Fur," reduces the duration of the "Soaked" debuff by 50%. This is a phenomenal mid-game class, but early on, the inability to craft quickly will severely bottleneck your progression.

Pitfalls to Dodge

Scritchy Scratchy is designed to punish sloppy habits. Avoid these common rookie errors to maintain your sanity and your leaderboard ranking.

  • Hording Scribble Rejects: New players often ignore Scribble Rejects because they don't understand what they are. These rejects take up permanent inventory slots until dropped. If your inventory fills up, you stop gathering resources automatically. Drop rejects immediately.
  • Fighting Roombas on the Ground Floor: Roombas are nearly invincible in direct combat early on. If you try to scratch one to death, you will waste three minutes of your life just to have it regenerate. Always fight Roombas by leading them to staircases; they will attempt to climb, fall, and temporarily stun themselves.
  • Ignoring the Meow Meter: The Meow Meter is a stamina bar located above your health. If it completely depletes, you enter "Cranky Mode," where your scratch damage drops to zero and all your scribbles become rejects. Always keep your Meow Meter above 20% by consuming basic Yarn Balls.
  • Building Bases Out of Paper: Paper is abundant, but paper structures have zero water resistance. A single stray Spritzer blast from across the map will instantly destroy a paper wall. Only use Bulk Cardboard or higher-tier materials for structural foundations.
  • Standing Still While Scribbling: The Scribble Engine does not pause the game. Many new players carefully and slowly draw a complex crafting rune, only to be flattened by a Roomba mid-draw. Always scribble while moving in a tight circle or while perched on an unreachable ledge.
  • Upgrading Claws Before Paws: In the skill tree, upgrading your paw grip (which increases how much loot you can carry in a single stack) is mathematically superior to upgrading your claw sharpness in the first two hours. Sharp claws help you break things slightly faster; better paws mean you make fewer trips back to your nest.

Next Steps

Once you have secured your first cardboard nest, chosen the Tabby Tinkerer class, and successfully survived your first world regeneration cycle, the real game begins. Your immediate next step is to start hunting for String theory Threads, which spawn exclusively inside reinforced plastic shipping packages. You will need the vertical scratch move to break these open efficiently.

Begin experimenting with combining shapes in the Scribble Engine. Drawing a circle inside a square summons a basic Cardboard Golem, a companion that will automatically gather loose debris for you. Automating your resource gathering is the key to shifting from early-game survival into the mid-game optimization phase.

Finally, start observing the Roomba patrol paths. Every fifteen-minute cycle, the Roombas shift their routes slightly based on where the most debris was generated in the previous cycle. By intentionally leaving "bait" piles of low-tier trash in specific corridors, you can manipulate Roomba traffic to keep them entirely away from your base. Mastering this traffic control mechanic is your first true step toward crafting the Golden Yarn Ball and conquering the world of Scritchy Scratchy.
