Hasbro cancelled an unannounced Dungeons & Dragons videogame that was in early development at Giant Skull, the studio founded by Stig Asmussen—director of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and former God of War III director. The publishing agreement with Wizards of the Coast was terminated early in 2026, roughly a year after the partnership was publicly announced. The project had no public name, no trailer, and no release window. Here is what is known, what is inferred, and what comes next.
The Partnership That Was
In mid-2024, Hasbro announced a collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Giant Skull, a studio Asmussen founded after leaving Respawn Entertainment. Wizards of the Coast president John Hight called Giant Skull "the perfect fit" for the project. Asmussen described the envisioned game as featuring "immersive storytelling, heroic combat and exhilarating traversal"—language consistent with the third-person action-adventure template of his previous work.
The project was never formally named. It existed as an "early concept," which is industry shorthand for pre-production: concept art, design documents, prototype work, but not full-scale development. The cancellation happened at this stage, before significant production investment had been made.
Giant Skull itself was announced
